The 2018 tracking test will be held at Sullivan Regional Airport grounds, about 30 minutes west of the host hotel on I-44. This is a small regional airport facility that has nearly zero flying activity and the tracks are well away from the runway. The use of this facility includes restrooms and a meeting room for assembly, drawings, ribbon presentation, etc. The TDX cover is moderately thick grass/hay that does get cut infrequently and can be from ankle to thigh height. Woods border the fields and are used as in & out obstacles. The TDs are a few minutes west of the airport in an industrial park with grass usually kept at ankle height. The trial will be for 4 TDX and 2 TDs with a third TD as an alternate pending space availability.
Judges are both Tervuren owners:
Carla Wolters (Illinois)
Jeff Whitsett (Tennessee)

I became interested in tervs after watching a herding event in September of 1996. My Ranger followed by Sara created a love affair with Tervs that has never ended. As for tracking, someone, I can't remember who, said that tracking was like "Following Ghosts" and think that's a great way to explain tracking. I started "messing" with tracking in 2001 and I was hooked! Watching Sara figure out the "puzzle" or follow the ghost, was something that fascinated me! After laying numerous tracks for tests, under several different judges and helping others train their dogs, I decided that I'd like to try my hand at judging. I truly enjoy watching dogs figure it out and the joy on the face of an owner after a dog passes! I'm honored by the invitation to judge my breeds 2018 National Specialty and look forward to seeing some great teams in the field.

I was introduced to dog sports many years ago by Kelsey, a Shetland Sheepdog. In the mid 90’s I found tracking and Kelsey earned the TD title.
My second dog was a Belgian Tervuren named Kane. We started tracking a week after coming together and didn’t stop. Kane passed his TD test on his first attempt at the 2000 American Belgian Tervuren Club's National Specialty in Georgia. In the fall of that same year, he passed his TDX in Nashville, TN.
On October 31, 2004 CH CT Summerstorm Heart's Desire VCD1 HSbs RE MX MXJ NF (Kane) became the fourth Belgian Tervuren to earn the elusive Champion Tracker title when he earned the VST title in Lexington, KY.
I also completed the TD test with Miles, a Shetland Sheepdog, and Sky, a Belgian Tervuren and am currently training Sky for TDX and VST and a young GSD for the TDX.
I am looking forward to judging the 2018 ABTC National tracking tests.
